We also know that all UK governments have committed to
promoting equality and tackling inequalities in health outcomes
independently of legislation. This commitment, in addition to the
public sector equality duty (PSED), should empower all to act on
unsupported hearing loss and help tackle what is now a leading
cause of years lived with disability.
As the evidence has shown, this can be done in a cost-effective and
sustainable way, benefiting patients, the health and care system
and the wider economy. The time to transform ear and hearing care
services is now if we want to meet the PSED and help people live
and age well.
