Experts call for comprehensive global initiative to combat hearing loss
10 July 2017
Hearing experts at the Duke Global Health Institute are calling for a comprehensive and worldwide initiative to address hearing loss.
VISION 2020, a campaign launched in 1999 by the World Health Organization to eliminate avoidable blindness by 2020, has been highlighted as a model which could also be adopted for a global hearing loss initiative.
Howard Francis, M.D., Chief of the Division of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences, Duke University, said:
“The call to action in this article provides a watershed opportunity in the history of hearing health by presenting a feasible roadmap to marshal disparate global endeavours into a coordinated and effective strategy”.
